The ATM is a critical part to our advanced rehab that is designed to alleviate pain and restrengthen an injury. A movement with pain is typically due to an unstable portion of your body and your brain remembers this painful movement. On the ATM, we stabilize the area in which you are having pain, make sure the movement is not irritating the injured area, then have you perform some repetitions of that movement. This begins a process of retraining the Central Nervous System to tell the brain that this movement should be allowed without pain, since our brain has pain memory receptors. Once this occurs, we can begin strengthening the injured area, which, in turn, re-stabilizes the area to help stop recurring injuries. Results are seen after the very first treatment with less pain and a significant increase in range of motion.
